About Childhelp Children's Center of Arizona

Since 1998, the Childhelp Children’s Center of Arizona (CCCA) has been instilling a sense of serenity in abused and neglected children by providing treatment, intervention and investigation services. Cheerful colors, teddy bears, toys and child-friendly paintings line the walls of the fully accredited advocacy center enhancing each child’s sense of safety and well-being. 

The goal of CCCA is to provide medical treatment, mental health therapy, efficient investigational resources, and victim support services to address the immediate safety and complete well-being of children who are referred to the center. 


Position Summary:

Primarily offers short-term, intensive, in-home family assessment, psychoeducation, and counseling, as well as court support, case management, and child advocacy to child victims and their non-offending family members in a culturally sensitive manner and makes every effort to ensure that services are not financially prohibitive.


Essential Responsibilities: 

  1. Provides in-home family assessment, psychoeducation and family therapy, as well as court support, case management and child advocacy to child victims and their non-offending family members.

  2. A minimum of 60% percent of time is spent in the provision of direct service to clients.

  3. Maintains a minimum of 15 family-caseload at any given time.

  4. Specific clinical responsibilities for each case assigned including but not limited to the following:

    1. Initial treatment assessments and formulations (psychosocial assessments; interviews with patient, parents and significant others to obtain data on the patient's personal, social, developmental, and emotional history; timely completion of all assessment tools used at intake including but not limited to FAD, Q.O.L., and Developmental form etc.).

    2. Therapy delivery (weekly or biweekly as clinically indicated).

    3. Case Management (case coordination with other disciplines, attend team meetings, etc.).

    4. Case Consultation for families with other providers or community-based resources.

    5. Communication with clients (Referral sources, parents/guardians, school officials, etc.).

    6. Timeliness of all necessary documentation (intakes, progress notes, case notes, treatment plans & reviews, annuals, contact calls, monthly summaries, discharge summaries, special notes, referrals etc.).

    7. Participation in the implementation of all clinical aspects of the Childhelp Children’s Center programs.

  5. Creates and maintains files with all paperwork and written reports related to clientele in accordance with Az DHS, the Center’s policies and procedures, and the forensic environment

  6. Completes all necessary documentation in record in a timely, thorough, and professional manner according to the following deadlines:

    1. Intake Paperwork and Forms Signed– Due Date of Service from the date of intake

    2. Expanded Developmental Form- 1 week from the date of intake

    3. Psychosocial Assessment with Assessment tools scores - 7 days from the date of intake and at the end of service.

    4. Treatment Goal added to Plan – 2 weeks from the date of intake and every 6 months

    5. Therapy Session Progress Notes – Due every Monday at noon following date of service

    6. CFT Note - Due date of service

    7. Monthly Summary – Due by the 7th of the following month

    8. ALL Case Notes – Due date of service

    9. Discharge Summary - 24 hours from the date of discharge

    10. Discharge questionnaire - 24 hours from the date of discharge

    11. Safety Plan - Due date of service

    12. Other Documentation – Due date of service

  7. Facilitate group therapy sessions for assigned treatment groups. Provides parent education, including facilitation of psychoeducational groups.

  8. Participates in research protocols.

  9. Provides immediate intervention and family stabilization services, when necessary

  10. Provides On-Call services for the center’s partners for 6-10 weeks/year depending on staffing

  11. Attends weekly clinical staff meetings and training, monthly Center all-staff meetings, and multi-disciplinary team meetings

  12. Attend weekly supervision to discuss case conceptualization, to review treatment goals, to discuss problems or obstacles to progress, to exchange ideas for intervention strategies, to provide clinical training, and to assist with difficult or problem families/cases.

  13. Coordinates services with a multidisciplinary team, including individual therapist, law enforcement, DCS, medical staff, forensic interviewers, and other persons/groups related to child abuse issues and ongoing cases, as necessary and appropriate within the forensic environment

  14. Provides court testimony, as needed

  15. Reports to Lead Family Therapist and Clinical Director, who report to the Director of the Center.

  16. Participates annually in 24 hours of relevant, continuing education/training events in order to maintain continuing education for professional licensure and clinical competency in the forensically sensitive specialty setting.

  17. Represents Childhelp through speaking engagements, educational opportunities, and public appearances.

  18. Participates in Center-based self-care and team building activities.

  19. Comports self in a positive and professional manner appropriate to a child-friendly and family friendly atmosphere in a trauma-informed manner. Engages in collegial activities with peers and colleagues.

  20. Consistently exercise sound, independent judgment and adequate emotional stability in evaluating situations and making decisions despite the pressures of deadlines or the occurrence of unexpected stressful events.

  21. Participate on committees and in professional meetings as necessary for the overall development and function of the program.

  22. Assures consistency in dealing in a tactful and harmonious fashion with staff, residents, and the public and to adhere to and follow all policies and procedures as designated and defined by the Director of the Center.

  23. Carries out other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences with an emphasis in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage and family, or other related field

  • Independent licensure eligibility by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners or Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners, to be completed within 6-12 months from starting date of service.

  • 2 years of work experience providing mental health counseling services to children, adolescents, and their families

  • Maintains own liability professional liability insurance.

  • Preference for post-Master's experience and training in child abuse, treatment of complex trauma, PTSD, forensics, and criminal justice system procedures

  • Basic computer literacy, Professional Comportment, Collegiality, Excellent Written and Communication skills
  • Clean Driving Record
