About Childheld Community Center

As it celebrates more than 20 years of service to the community, the Childhelp Community Center remains true to its mission of promoting and encouraging the spiritual, emotional and physical well being of children, young adults and families in need. 
 
Childhelp Community Center was founded in 1993 as a partnership between the Pendergast Elementary School District, Southwest Leadership Foundation and Phoenix Urban League to create a Head Start preschool program for low-income families in the area.  The Center and its dedicated staff quickly became a community resource and link to serve a wide-range of other needs.
 

Position Summary: 

Responsible for assisting in the planning and execution the school-based and community education programs  in accordance with the purpose and goals of Childhelp Community Center.  Responsible for assisting in the management of a class of children.  
Current openings - Part Time and On-Call. 


Must have ability to work any of the following shifts:  5:45am – 8:30am M-F, 2:30pm – 6:00pm M/T/Th/F, and 12:15pm – 6:00pm on Wednesdays.


Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Understands the Community Center Policies and supports the philosophy of Childhelp, Inc. in the implementation of the Community Center Performance Standards, as reflected in the component plans.
  • Participates in Childhelp Community Center community education programs, including but not limited to, Strengthening Families Program, Winterfest, Resource Fairs, etc.
  • Completes and maintains all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with Childhelp Community Center Performance Standards.
  • Assist in the implementation of federal, state, and local health and safety policies and procedures including maintaining compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services Licensing requirements.
  • Educate parents, staff, and volunteers, as appropriate.
  • Assist in execution of curriculum for elementary aged children, based on the individual interests, needs, and abilities of the children in the classroom and the group as a whole.
  • Plans, organizes and attends meetings as needed or required
  • Develops and maintains a relationship with each family to encourage meaningful participation in the program.
  • Initiates and sustains positive working relationships with schools, community agencies, the grantee, and the staffs of each organization.
  • Interacts comfortably and empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Provides incidental medical assistance as needed
  • Assist in the arrangement of the physical environment making it safe, healthy, interesting and developmentally appropriate.
  • Maintains the upkeep of classroom supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Participates in developmentally appropriate outdoor play activities on a daily basis.

  • Attends and participates in ongoing training designed for Community Center staff and supplemental education training.
  • Maintains appropriate education certificate or credential.
  • Submits to the Director a record of training attended and classes taken during the program year.
  • Participates in the annual program assessment.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation to travel to schools within the Littleton School District
  • Written documentation of one of the following:
  • 6 months of child care experience and:
    • A high school/GED diploma; or
    • At least 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university,  including at least 6 credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field;
  • Associate or bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field; or
  • N.A.C., C.D.A., or C.C.P. credential;
    •  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Produce evidence of: Fingerprint clearance, evidence or a negative TB clearance within the last 12 months and proof of current immunizations.
    • Demonstrate the ability to relate to low income families and their needs.
    • Be motivated to pursue additional training in job-related areas.
    • Have a reliable, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and be able to document a good driving record.
    • Be able to interpret local, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and procedures as they pertain to the duties of the job.
